Europe Launches Free Online Privacy Lessons for Kids

Do you feel confident your children are safe from privacy risks online?

The European Data Protection Board has launched Privacy for Kids, an online hub offering games, videos, quizzes and other materials on children's online privacy. It is aimed at parents, teachers and educators across the 27 EU Member States plus Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway.

Why it matters

Children may not easily recognise online risks, trust strangers or share personal data carefully, and many apps collect children's data without adequate safeguards. A shared European resource gives families and schools one place to learn about these risks.

The hub covers all 27 EU Member States plus Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway. Its resources can be filtered into three age groups: 3-10, 11-15 and 16+ years.

The players

European Data Protection Board (EDPB)

The EU body that coordinates national data protection authorities and sets consistent privacy rules across Europe.

The details

The hub brings together materials from data protection authorities across Europe, published in multiple languages. Topics include sharing online, social media, smartphones and apps, privacy at home, privacy at school, cyberbullying and smart toys. Content comes in several formats, including projects, informational campaigns, games, infographics, videos and quizzes, and a character called Eddy the beaver guides users through the materials.

Timeline

  1. The Privacy for Kids hub was launched on 4 November 2026.

The Home Front

The hub builds on the GDPR's specific protections for children's personal data online, applying them to everyday family and classroom settings. It extends a European regulatory framework into the homes and schools where children actually use apps and smart devices.

Parents and teachers can browse the hub's age-filtered materials to talk with children about sharing personal information, app permissions and cyberbullying. Reviewing which apps and smart toys your family uses, and what data they request, is a practical starting point.

The takeaway

A single European hub now gathers privacy lessons for children aged 3 to 16 in one place. Before your child downloads a new app or smart toy, check which information it requests and talk through it together.
