Brembo unveiled a redesigned GP4 brake caliper for the 2027 MotoGP season at EICMA 2026. The caliper is 75 grams lighter per unit and about 5% stiffer than the prior version, and is fully compatible with the current system.

Why it matters

For motorcycle riders and enthusiasts, lighter and stiffer braking hardware changes how a bike responds under hard deceleration, and a fully compatible caliper means the upgrade does not require replacing the rest of the system. Brembo also showed its first braking products for side-by-side vehicles and new aftermarket discs for road riders at the same show.

The GP4 caliper is 75 grams lighter per unit and about 5% stiffer than the prior version, and is fully compatible with the current system. The Hyction carbon-ceramic disc is 450 grams lighter than a steel road-superbike disc, with up to 40% less inertia.

The players

Brembo

Italian brake manufacturer known for motorsport and high-performance braking systems across motorcycles, cars and off-road vehicles.

EICMA

The international motorcycle show in Milan where Brembo unveiled its new products for 2026.

Polaris

Off-road vehicle manufacturer whose RZR Pro R side-by-side receives one of Brembo's first SSV upgrade kits.

Can-Am

Off-road vehicle brand whose Maverick R receives one of Brembo's first SSV upgrade kits.

The details

The Hyction disc is derived from the CCM-R technology Brembo uses in hypercars, and it will be used in the FIM Superbike World Championship from 2027. Brembo's first side-by-side vehicle products are upgrade caliper and brake disc kits for the Polaris RZR Pro R and Can-Am Maverick R, which drivers have used in the Baja Aragon and Baja 500. The XTRA Signature brake disc uses larger diameters than the original equivalents and comes in fixed or floating versions depending on the application, while the RCS24, RCS29 and RCS34 clutch master cylinders are for motorcycles with cable-operated clutches.

Timeline

  1. 2027: GP4 caliper debuts in the MotoGP season and Hyction disc begins use in WorldSBK.

  2. November 2, 2026: Brembo announced the EICMA 2026 product unveilings.

The Road Ahead

Brembo's Hyction disc, derived from the CCM-R technology used in hypercars, enters the FIM Superbike World Championship from 2027, carrying race-proven carbon-ceramic braking into the superbike class. This follows the same path of moving top-tier motorsport braking hardware toward road-going and aftermarket use.

If you ride a road superbike or race-spec motorcycle, the Hyction disc and GP4 caliper are performance upgrades to consider when your current brakes next need replacement. Check with a licensed motorcycle service shop before any brake work, since brake components affect safety directly.

The takeaway

Upgraded brake hardware lowers weight and improves stiffness, but brake parts should always be fitted by a qualified motorcycle technician. Keep your bike's brake service records on file when you next schedule maintenance.
