Dyson has launched the W1 PencilWash, a new wet vacuum cleaner designed for sealed hard floors. The $349.99 device features a compact design capable of reclining to 2.95 inches for cleaning under low-clearance furniture.
Why it matters
This release introduces a more compact option for floor maintenance, specifically targeting hard surfaces like wood, tile, and vinyl. The model offers improved drying performance compared to its predecessor, leaving floors 30% drier in low-hydration mode.
The W1 PencilWash weighs 5.95 pounds and offers up to 45 minutes of battery life. It utilizes 12 water delivery points to manage moisture, representing a significant reduction in weight compared to the 9.92-pound Tineco Floor One Stretch S6.
The players
Dyson
A global manufacturer known for its high-end vacuum cleaners, air purifiers, and hair care technology.
The details
The W1 PencilWash operates by using a motorized roller that scrubs the floor while simultaneously absorbing liquid. Twelve internal water delivery points distribute fresh water to the surface, while debris is lifted away by the roller system. The unit is designed exclusively for sealed hard floors and cannot be used on rugs or carpeting.
Timeline

The Home Front
The introduction of the W1 PencilWash follows a clear industry shift toward ultra-low-profile wet vacuuming technology. This model competes directly with established devices by focusing on reduced clearance requirements for under-furniture cleaning.
If you are looking to replace a floor cleaner, measure the clearance height beneath your lowest furniture to see if the 2.95-inch profile fits your needs. Remember that this unit is restricted to sealed hard floors and should not be used on any rug or carpet surfaces.
The takeaway
The W1 PencilWash prioritizes a slim, low-profile design for maneuverability around household obstacles. Prospective owners should verify their floor types, as the device is not compatible with carpets or rugs.
